It was a dark and stormy night.... Well you have to start somewhere.
Buenos Aires is as I recall 5,500 miles south of Louisville. It requires a flight to Atlanta, a five hour wait, and a 9 hour flight from Atlanta to Buenos Aires. But we found a way to pass the time.....First of all, Anne handed out Sudokus. Then we found Erin McCoy's YouTube dance video - VERY impressive. Then about an hour of CNN.
During CNN, Erin and Bethany gave texting lessons to Reba. (not that Anne and I didn't need them - we just didn't realize they were giving lessons in time.) We discovered that we could text (sending) for about $0.50 / text message while calls in Buenos Aires would cost about $2.29 / minute. Following the lesson, Reba decided to combine passions and began to text Sudoku puzzles. She found that the Sudokus were much less frustrating and she completed them much faster. The down side was that it was costing about $20.00 a piece to finish a Sudoku.
Also while waiting in Atlanta, we saw literally hundreds of soldiers --- Military police, airbourne divisions, marines, even coast guard. They had a plane chartered to take them to Kuwait and from there to various locations. One young man we spoke to was on his first deployment to Afghanistan. He was a little nervous; actually, so were we. We wanted to say or do something but had no idea what to say or do. All we could do was to wish and pray they got there AND home safely.
Then onto the plane for our 9 hour trip. We sat in 29 A, B, C, D, and E. When you are 6 feet 5 inches tall, it is hard to sleep in a chair made for a 4 foot 11 inch human. But I did manage to sleep a little. But it was good to get into Buenos Aires this morning.
More about the day later. It has been a long day with little sleep.
