Greetings all -
A little "Show and Tell"- The church above is Lanus Este. Two years ago, we visited and painted much of the interior of the community center portion of the church. Now they have renovated much of the church, doing much of the work themselves. A new tile floor was laid on top of the concrete floor in the sanctuary, new stain glass windows were installed. The interior was repainted and some of the walls were removed to open up the sanctuary. On the exterior, they replaced the security gates, fixed up the facade, and even laid new side walk tiles in front of the church. You cannot beleive the difference.
The family is Charly & Veronica Pauer and their children Ezekiel and Yara. Charly is the pastor of Lanus Este. The church cannot afford to pay him a full time salary, so he works for the Argentine Baptist Convention during the week to earn approximately 75% of his salary.
Two years ago, we helped to set up a computer lab in the community center with four old computers which I beleive were donated. We connected them to a local area network and installed Microsoft Office. Last year's mission group offered a small computer class on some of the Microsoft Office programs. From that they have roughly doubled the number of computers and moved them to a new room. They have a computer instructor who comes in regularly to teach basic computer skills. Many people have been able to get jobs due to their new computer knowlege.
The church membership appears to have at least doubled in the last two years. Things seem to be going well.
The credit for this of course goes to Charly and the members of Lanus Este. They work hard and beleive in their church. Still it is good to see the improvements and to hope that our efforts as a church may have contributed in some small way to their success.
Chau.
